PODCAST: Power Bases and the Importance of Customer Choice

One of my favorite aspects of working with clients, clinicians, and wheelchair providers is identifying the specific pieces and set-up of equipment to create a wheeled mobility device that will maximize the client's independence. Over the decades I have worked with people who use wheelchairs, I can honestly say I have never recommended the same seating system and wheelchair for two different clients. The beauty of the complex rehabilitation technology (CRT) industry is that we are all working together to meet the goals of each of the individuals who use the equipment we manufacture, fabricate, and/or recommend.

A lot goes into developing and creating CRT products. It is vital that voices from individuals who use CRT equipment, caregivers, clinicians, CRT providers, and even funding sources are all heard by manufacturers. I have the honor of working with some of the most talented people in the CRT industry, especially when it comes to designing products that are, as our mission statement says, "improving people's lives."

Laurie Watanabe, Editor of Mobility Management Magazine, recently sat down with Jeff Rogers, Director of Power Product Management for Sunrise Medical (US), and myself to learn more about what goes into selecting and creating power wheelchairs for clients. Click below to listen!
