PODCAST: Getting to Know Your Clients to Improve Seating and Mobility Outcomes

If I asked you a deeply personal question, would you provide the exact same answer to me that you would if your best friend, significant other, parent, and/or your physician asked you? Odds are, the vast majority of people would say "no." So don't worry, you're not alone! The level of information I share with my inner circle of close friends is vastly different than what I share with complete strangers, colleagues, my parents, etc. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

However, it can be difficult if you are on the receiving end of the answers and are attempting to provide the most appropriate recommendations for seating and mobility equipment to a client who you are only authorized to see for one session. In order to complete a thorough evaluation and determine what equipment would improve the level of function for our clients, it is vital we receive accurate and transparent information from them and their caregivers.

Recently I was interviewed by Laurie Watanabe, Editor of Mobility Management, for a podcast episode. This episode is centered on the topic of the importance of helping your clients to become comfortable enough to be open and forthcoming during the evaluation.
